U23 Kuwait had early preparation for the ASIAD 20 men's football event when the West Asian team went to Japan nearly a week before the match day. This time was used by the coaching staff to allow the players to adapt to weather conditions, the field and complete the final preparation stage.
Spanish coach David Doniga also registered 3 overage players for the tournament, including Al-Asaimi, Al-Salama and Al-Mubailish. All three played in attacking positions, thereby adding experience to Kuwait's youth squad.
Meanwhile, U23 Vietnam entered ASIAD 20 with a squad without overage players. This is a suitable choice with the orientation of creating international competition conditions for young players. The team also does not have the strongest force because some personnel have to share tasks with the national team, including Dinh Bac and Cong Phuong.
U23 Vietnam only had a short period of concentration before going to Japan. However, the current squad still has some players who have played in international youth tournaments such as Ngoc My, Van Binh, Duc Anh, Phi Hoang and Quoc Cuong.
U23 Vietnam once met U23 Kuwait in the group stage of the 2024 AFC U23 Championship and won. Among the current players, Le Nguyen Hoang is the only person to have participated in that match.
