The UK Home Affairs Ministry has just released a new report, showing that Man United is the team with the most fans detained in the country's top tournaments in the 2024-2025 season. The number is up to 121 people, far surpassing teams such as Man City (94), West Ham (77), Arsenal (42), or Liverpool (18).
Notably, 20-year-old fan Alfie Holt was fined and banned from playing for three years after slapping Jack Grealish in the Manchester derby in April. This is just one of many incidents that Man United fans have caused in the past season.
According to statistics, the most common type of behavior leading to arrest is disturbing public order, accounting for 32% of the total number of cases. Excessive behavior and possession of type A drugs account for 22,9% and 19%, respectively. Man United continues to top the list in the drug possession category with 27 cases, followed by West Ham (26), Newcastle 24.
In total, there were 1,803 arrests in six professional competitions in England, down 12% from the 2023-2024 season. However, the number of drug-related cases increased slightly, from 344 to 378. The incidents in matches also increased significantly, from 1,341 to 1,583 matches. Assaulting, throwing objects and using flares were the most recorded acts.
The report also showed 287 cases related to race, 140 cases related to sexual orientation, along with acts of religious discrimination, disability and gender identity.
On the pitch, Man United had a forgettable season when they only finished 15th in the Premier League - their worst achievement in more than 50 years. They reached the Europa League final but lost 0-1 to Tottenham. Tottenham will join the top teams such as Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea and Newcastle in the group stage of the Champions League next season.
