Mr. Nguyen Van Vinh used to be a player of The Cong before 1975 and was considered one of the highly professional faces of Northern football during this period.
After retiring, he switched to coaching, having led many teams such as Army Club, Ho Chi Minh City Food Industry or Ho Chi Minh City Police. Although his coaching career has gone through many ups and downs, he is still recognized by experts as a strategist who deeply understands tactics and techniques and has contributed to discovering and developing young players for localities.
A major turning point in his career came in the early 2000s when he was invited by Mr. Doan Nguyen Duc to be the Technical Director for Hoang Anh Gia Lai. At the mountain town team, he played the role of strategic advisor, participated in building forces and coordinated with former legend Kiatisak in the strong development period of the club.
Under the professional orientation of the coaching staff, Hoang Anh Gia Lai won 2 V.League championships, National Super Cup and became the representative of Vietnam to participate in the regional arena. He is also one of the factors participating in shaping youth training work, contributing to the birth of the HAGL - Arsenal JMG Academy in 2007.
In the process of selecting and training young players, Mr. Nguyen Van Vinh participated in professional advice for many generations of players, including faces who later grew up from the academy such as Nguyen Cong Phuong, Nguyen Van Toan, Luong Xuan Truong or Nguyen Tuan Anh.
After retiring in 2009, he continued to participate in professional advice and support youth training in some localities, and also participated in football commentary on television. In recent years, his health has declined due to Parkinson's disease, making his travel difficult.
The passing of Mr. Nguyen Van Vinh left much regret for Vietnamese football, especially in the field of youth training - where he has more than half a century of dedication and professional contribution.
