Dau Khuong Duy is one of many chess players representing host Vietnam to compete in the International Chess Tournament Masters-Grandmasters 2026 held in Quang Ninh from June 23 to July 7.
The tournament attracts 140 chess players from 21 countries and territories around the world to participate (including 9 international grandmasters) to compete in standard chess (10 games) and blitz chess (9 games).
According to regulations, the first round of the tournament is held from June 23 to June 30 and chess players compete in the Masters (for chess players with elo ratings from 2,000 or higher) and the FIDE (FM) Masters (for chess players with elo ratings from 1,999 or below). In the first round, blitz chess will be held on June 27 in expanded form.
The second round will be held from July 2 to July 7, including the Grandmaster and International Grandmaster, FIDE Grandmaster (FM) categories.
In addition to Dau Khuong Duy, host Vietnam chess has many participating faces such as Pham Tran Gia Phuc, Dinh Nho Kiet, Banh Gia Huy, Nguyen Anh Dung, Duong Vu Anh, Dang Hoang Son...
The results of each player will be updated to the official system of the International Chess Federation FIDE to calculate the Standard Grandmaster, International Master as well as update the new elo rating in August 2026.
In April this year, Dau Khuong Duy won the 2026 Bangkok Open Chess Championship in Thailand and won the 2nd Grandmaster (GM norm) standard for himself. If successful in Quang Ninh this time, Khuong Duy has enough opportunities to have the 3rd Grandmaster standard and aim for the ability to receive the title of International Grandmaster.
