Praised at SEA Games
At SEA Games 33, the Vietnamese athletics team won 34 medals (12 Gold Medals, 12 Silver Medals, 10 Bronze Medals) and completed targets. In which, the Vietnamese athletics team introduced a generation of young faces competing and achieving good results at SEA Games 33 such as Ta Ngoc Tuong, Le Thi Cam Tu, Doan Thu Hang, Le Thi Tuyet Mai, Tran Thi Loan, Bui Thi Kim Anh...
The total prize with 34 medals, focusing on 12 Gold Medals at SEA Games 33, awarded by the Vietnam Athletics Federation to the Vietnamese Athletics Team is 1 billion VND.
General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung affirmed: "Each event at SEA Games 33 is a reflection of the expertise of Vietnamese athletes. However, the results will be a step for us to prepare carefully in the next plans. The reward is for the athletes so that they and the coaching staff have the highest spirit, but with competition, the professional element and results are still the best things to do".
At SEA Games 33, the Vietnamese athletics team registered 50 athletes, participating in 38 events in 47 events of athletics. We have 12 Gold Medals, ranked second in the competition. The results are not the most perfect but completed the predicted preparation plan for the SEA Games 33 arena.
But be careful for ASIAD
Vietnamese athletics has reported and analyzed the pros and cons before the leaders of the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports from the results of SEA Games 33 at the working session on December 25. In which, we are only satisfied with the medal achievement (reaching 12 Gold Medals).
Regarding the performance index, we have results exceeding national records from competition achievements in some specific events, but to compare with ASIAD achievements, Vietnamese athletics athletes still have to be cautious.
Athletics (Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports) and the Vietnam Athletics Federation have created confidence for athletes in many international tournaments in recent times. In particular, we have won Gold Medals at the 2023 Asian Championships, the 2024 Asian Relay Athletics Championships and won Silver Medals at the 2025 Asian Championships.
The ASIAD competition is still important for countries in the region. Top Asian athletes all participate in this Games. Vietnamese athletics relies on the force, analyzing the subjects and the ability to compete professionally in specific events at ASIAD to invest and do the best professionally ready for this Games.
We always expect athletes to have the highest fighting spirit at ASIAD. This is a cyclical professional focus," the leader of the Vietnamese athletics team - Mr. Nguyen Duc Nguyen once shared in Thailand.
The last time the Vietnamese Athletics Team won a Gold Medal at ASIAD was in 2018 in Indonesia. At ASIAD 19 in 2023 in China, Vietnamese athletics did not have a medal. However, ASIAD 20 in 2026 is a key goal and Vietnamese athletics strives to have a Gold Medal.
Which key events at ASIAD 20 in 2026 to have enough chances of success is being calculated by the coaching staff of the Vietnamese Athletics Team. Representatives of the High-Performance Sports Department (Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports) have affirmed that athletics will be focused on the group of key events to compete in ASIAD 20 in 2026.
