Djokovic and the Alcaraz branch at the 2025 US Open

According to the draw for the 2025 US Open men's singles, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz are likely to face each other in the semi-finals, when both are in the same branch.

The four-time Djokovic champion will open the tournament with a match against Vietnamese-American Learner Tien, currently ranked 48th in the ATP. Tien made a splash at the Australian Open earlier this year when he dropped Daniil Medvedev and advanced to the fourth round. Djokovic's next path is not expected to be easy as he can meet Alex Michelsen in round 3, Frances Tiafoe in round 4 and Taylor Fritz in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Alcaraz also face a series of home players, starting with Reilly Opelka in the first round. If all goes well, the world No. 2 could meet Ben Shelton in the quarter-finals, before facing Djokovic in the semi-finals. Alcaraz's branch also brings together many big names such as former champion Medvedev or 2022 runner-up Casper Ruud.

The most beneficial player from the draw is the defending champion Jannik Sinner. The No. 1 seed will meet Vit Kopriva in the first round, before being able to face Alexei Popyrin in the second round. If they maintain their form, Sinner will likely meet Jack Draper in the quarter-finals and Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals. Notably, Zverev will have to overcome a difficult challenge right from the first round when meeting Alejandro Tabilo.

In the women's singles event, the No. 1 seed Aryna Sabalenka will start with a match against Rebeka Masarova, and can face Jasmine Paolini in the quarter-finals and Jessica Pegula in the semi-finals. In the remaining branch, Iga Swiatek could reunite with Amanda Anisimova - who lost to her in the Wimbledon final. Home sides such as Coco Gauff and Madison Keys are also expected to advance further, while former champion Venus Williams returned to the US Open in the match against seed number 11 Karolina muchova.

The 2025 US Open will kick off on August 24, with a total prize fund reaching a record of $90 million. The champion of the men's and women's singles will receive 5 million USD.
