This is not the first time Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan has been assigned the task of managing football at ASIAD. At ASIAD 17 in 2014 in Incheon (Korea), he used to hold the role of Head of the delegation managing football, participating in the organization and coordination of professional activities at the Games.
At ASIAD 19 in 2023 in Hangzhou (China), Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan continued to be assigned by AFC to be the Head of the AFC men's and women's football delegation at the Congress.
Continuing to be trusted by AFC to assign important responsibilities at ASIAD 2026 shows the role of Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan in football management at the continental level. Currently, the VFF President is a member of the AFC Standing Committee and the Chairman of the AFC Competition Committee.
At the world level, in October 2025, Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan was appointed by FIFA as a member of the FIFA National Team Competition Committee for the term 2025-2029. This committee has the task of advising and consulting the FIFA Council in planning strategies, organizing and operating important international tournaments under the FIFA system.
At ASIAD 2026, Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan will directly participate in managing men's football, contributing to coordinating the organization and ensuring professional activities are implemented according to the regulations of AFC and the Organizing Committee of the Congress.
ASIAD 2026 takes place in Aichi and Nagoya (Japan) from September 19 to October 4. 2026. Men's football starts from September 15, with 15 participating teams, divided into 4 groups. The top two teams in each group qualify for the quarterfinals.
The U23 Vietnam team is in Group C with the teams U23 Uzbekistan, U23 Philippines and U23 Kuwait. According to the schedule, U23 Vietnam will meet U23 Kuwait on September 15, U23 Philippines on September 18 and U23 Uzbekistan on September 22.
The opening match of U23 Vietnam against U23 Kuwait takes place at 5:00 PM on September 15 (Vietnam time) at Nagoya City Mizuho Stadium in Nagoya.
To prepare for ASIAD 2026, U23 Vietnam has had two training camps this year. In March, the team participating in the CFA Team China 2026 friendly tournament, will have the opportunity to play against U23 DPRK, U23 Thailand and U23 China respectively.
At the end of July, U23 Vietnam will continue to gather for a short time to review and assess the force before entering the final preparation stage for ASIAD 2026.
According to the plan, U23 Vietnam will gather again on September 12 and depart for Japan on September 13, before entering the ASIAD 2026 campaign.
