Khanh Hoa men's volleyball team and a challenging season

HOÀNG HUÊ |

Sanest Khanh Hoa Club is the current runner-up of the National Volleyball Championship. After many years of maintaining its position as one of the top men's volleyball teams in the domestic tournament, the coastal city team is entering a new season with many challenges.

A series of difficulties in personnel

The team's sponsor encountered business difficulties, leading to Sanest Khanh Hoa no longer having a stable funding source. Financial difficulties have forced a series of their pillars to leave, including the veteran face of Tu Thanh Thuan. From here, Sanest Khanh Hoa's force was seriously disrupted.

Talking to Lao Dong, coach Ngo Van Kieu said: "We are entering the most difficult season ever. I was forced to bring young athletes up to fill the missing positions. This is not easy because young children do not meet the high requirements of the first level. When they have to cross the threshold early, it is very difficult for them to adapt.

The team has 5 new young athletes and some of them used to play for Sanest Khanh Hoa but could not meet the requirements, so they had to retire before. I have gathered them since Tet to practice. Although the squad has 14 players to compete, I do not know how many of them are used when entering the field. Even I am not sure if I will be in charge or concurrently play the role of athlete.

Currently, Sanest Khanh Hoa still has the pillars: Duong Van Tien, Huynh Trung Truc, Nguyen Phuc Loc, Nguyen Thanh Phuong.... Some young players are also expected by coach Ngo Van Kieu to meet the professional requirements to play.

Taking the spirit as a support

In the context of a series of difficulties in personnel, Sanest Khanh Hoa still has valuable additions. The coastal city football team receives the service of Le Van Thanh, the athlete can play excellently in both the main striker and opposite positions.

In addition, foreign player Evandro Dias Souza also agreed to return to Vietnam to play alongside Sanest Khanh Hoa. The Brazilian hitter left a strong professional mark when playing for this team in the second round of the 2023 national championship and two stages of the 2024 national championship.

"If the previous years were strongly sponsored, with full numbers of players and many quality players, the goal of Sanest Khanh Hoa was to compete for the championship. Now there are not enough forces, there are no conditions, we only aim to stay in the league. This can help players compete with a comfortable mindset. In this year's season, we are cautious and prioritize solving each round. Luckily for us, the opponents in the first phase of the national championship will compete in the Hoa Lu - Binh Dien Cup (taking place from March 4 - 9 in Ninh Binh). I will have time to watch them compete to make plans for my team, coach Ngo Van Kieu frankly said.

In the most difficult time, the "ship driver" plays a very important role, bringing the spirit of the whole team up. Ngo Van Kieu is the name that Sanest Khanh Hoa believes in and assigns responsibility to. Understanding this, the coach born in 1984 said that he is trying his best, working with passion for the team.

Coach Ngo Van Kieu said: "I am very comfortable mentally. From being an athlete to now a coach, I am still loyal to Sanest Khanh Hoa. I work for passion, not for money, I do my best when I receive a task. What Sanest Khanh Hoa has given me before, I am responding with my efforts and enthusiasm.

For Mr. Kieu, sports cannot predict anything. When he is an athlete, he can be successful, but when he is a coach, many factors are needed, including luck. Therefore, coaches Ngo Van Kieu and Sanest Khanh Hoa are taking advantage of everything in hand, ready to enter the 2025 season with many thorns ahead.
