Thailand national team captain makes tough statement before Vietnam's second leg final

Captain midfielder Sarach Yooyen affirmed that the Thai team aims to win in the second leg of the ASEAN Cup 2026 final.

After a 0-2 defeat to Vietnam in the first leg at Rajamangala, Thailand faces a very difficult task in the rematch at My Dinh Stadium. The Golden Temple team needs a large victory to reverse the situation and win the championship.

At the pre-match press conference held at noon on August 25, Sarach Yooyen said that Thai players did not underestimate the opponent's strength after the defeat in the first leg.

In national team matches, we cannot say whether team A or team B. We have respect for Vietnam when we previously lost 0-2. But we have faith in bringing the cup back to our country," Sarach Yooyen shared.

According to the Thai captain midfielder, the final creates no small pressure, especially for young players. However, the whole team is still aiming for the goal of winning.

For young players, this is a very stressful match. We still have a chance to win. Through each match, we will change and adjust our playing style, young players will also develop. Our goal is to try to win," Yooyen said.

In the first leg, Thailand created some chances but could not penetrate Vietnam's defense. Meanwhile, two goals from Hai Long and Quang Hai helped the away team win 2-0.

Before the second leg, Sarach Yooyen continued to show confidence. When asked about Thailand's goal at My Dinh, the captain of the away team gave a clear answer: "There is nothing but victory and this victory can bring the championship to Thailand".

The second leg final of ASEAN Cup 2026 between Vietnam and Thailand takes place at 8:00 PM on August 26th at My Dinh Stadium. Vietnam is in a big advantage with a 2-0 victory in the first leg.
