All parties regret
There are many reasons why expert Park Chung-gun and Vietnamese sports in general or the shooting team in particular have come to this point. The most regrettable thing that outsiders see is that if the parties (including the Vietnamese sports industry and shooting expert Park Chung-gun) had maintained a good relationship, then this coach certainly deserved to be honored once to thank him.
Vietnamese shooting has gone through two recent direct competitions including ASIAD 19 (October 2023) and Paris Olympics 2024 (August 2024). We have shooters competing in key events here and achieving medal results, as well as having rankings to compete for.
Sports leaders and Mr. Park Chung-gun himself know clearly what issues need to be improved to help Vietnamese shooters improve their skills to aim for the next distant arenas including the 20th Asian Games in 2026 and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Necessary work
Without expert Park Chung-gun, the domestic shooters and coaches are still practicing their daily skills. In the information that has been made known to the public when it was released, the High Performance Sports Department 1 (Department of Physical Education and Sports) - the unit that manages the shooting sport - has set a goal of striving to win one to two gold medals in shooting at the 20th Asian Games; striving to win a gold medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics (USA).
Ignoring the issues between Coach Park Chung-gun and Vietnamese sports, or with Vietnamese shooting, the question raised by fans is whether the coaching staff will have coaches with the expertise to achieve such results with the above goals? The Vietnamese Shooting Team is using domestic coaches. In the coaching staff at the moment, the famous former shooter Tran Quoc Cuong is working in the pistol team.
Remember when preparing for the 19th ASIAD, the Pistol Team of the Vietnam Shooting Team had 3 people in charge of professional work: expert Park Chung-gun (as head coach), coach Hoang Xuan Vinh, coach Tran Quoc Cuong. Each person has his own professional work. Now, which coach of which content team in the Vietnam Shooting Team confidently takes the seal, ready to ensure the achievement target of a Gold Medal at the 20th ASIAD and then continue to have an Olympic Gold Medal in 2028 will be awaited.
- Department of High Performance Sports 1 (Department of Physical Education and Sports) once expressed its opinion that it would advise the leaders of the Department of Physical Education and Sports to continue hiring experts for some important content groups. When hiring a suitable expert, the manager will assign professional work to the expert (if any) to do directly, receiving specific targets.
Previously, expert Park Chung-gun expressed that targets are the goals that sports teams aim for. But of course, setting a milestone of winning one to two Gold Medals at the 20th Asian Games is not easy. Along with that, Vietnamese shooting also aims to win a Gold Medal at the 2028 Olympics.
It is also possible that the sports manager is looking for an innovative approach after more than 10 years of working with an expert (Mr. Park Chung-gun). Each coach in the coaching staff of the Vietnam Shooting Team is a professional, and his name was chosen to be invited to the team to perform his duties.
