According to Lao Dong's investigation, the Badminton World Federation BWF and the International Olympic Committee - IOC only awarded 1 official spot in the women's singles event at the 2026 Youth Olympics.
After professional consideration, the Vietnam Badminton Federation and the coaching staff of the Vietnam Badminton Team officially registered Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen to attend the above Games.
The 2026 Youth Olympics is held in Dakar (Senegal) from October 31st to November 13th. 11. Badminton only organizes 2 events: men's singles and women's singles.
Each event has 32 players awarded participation slots. Thus, the 2026 Youth Olympics will only have 64 players participating in badminton.
Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen just competed in the Youth Badminton Tournament in the Philippines and won the runner-up in women's singles and the runner-up in mixed doubles.
This will be the first time Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen has participated in a tournament at the Olympic level of world badminton. This year, Thu Huyen is 15 years old.
The last time the Youth Olympics was held was in 2018 in Argentina.
The Vietnamese badminton team has players Nguyen Hai Dang and Vu Thi Anh Thu participating in the Olympics above. Closing the competition, player Vu Thi Anh Thu won a silver medal when participating in the mixed team in the world selection team of the Organizing Committee at this tournament.
Currently, Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen is training in Bac Ninh after returning home from the Philippines.
