This year, the competition program of the 2026 Asian Grand Prix Swordplay Tournament (for the swordplay event) takes place from May 1 to May 3 in Korea.
On May 1st, the Vietnamese fencing team had 4 faces competing in the group stage of each event at the tournament, respectively Nguyen Van Quyet, Nguyen Xuan Loi (male), Pham Thi Thu Hoai, Phung Thi Khanh Linh (female).
At the end of the group stage, Nguyen Van Quyet and Nguyen Xuan Loi both lost 5 matches and had 1 win, so they did not have enough points to enter the knockout round. With the results played, Nguyen Van Quyet ranked 137th and Nguyen Xuan Loi ranked 147th.
The women's swordplay event also ended the group stage on May 1. Pham Thi Thu Hoai and Phung Thi Khanh Linh did not have the best results to advance to the next round, so they were eliminated. In the results after the group stage, Phung Thi Khanh Linh was ranked 102nd while Pham Thi Thu Hoai was ranked 122nd.
The Vietnamese fencing team will begin professional training from January 2026 in Bac Ninh.
This year, swordsman Vu Thanh An of the swordplay event was not selected for the National Team.
The 2026 Asian Grand Prix Swordplay Tournament (for swordplay) is the first international program of Vietnamese swordplay in 2026. In mid-May, the 2026 Asian Grand Prix (for swordplay) will be held in China, but we do not participate.
