The Iranian women's national team suffered a 0-4 defeat to Australia in the group stage match of the AFC Women's Asian Cup 2026, in the match taking place on the afternoon of March 5.

Against a stronger opponent, the Iranian women's team actively played defensively from the beginning of the match. However, great pressure from Australia caused the West Asian team to concede a goal early. In the 8th minute, Amy Sayer made a cross from the left wing, sending the ball straight into the goal, opening the score for the home team.

After conceding a goal, Iran tried to reorganize the squad and tried to resist the opponent's continuous attacks. However, in the 27th minute, Mary Fowler rushed in to volley in the penalty area, doubling the gap for Australia.

In the 35th minute, Iran's defense continued to be put in a difficult position when Alanna Kennedy quickly finished in the penalty area, increasing the score to 3-0 for Australia before the first half ended.

Stepping into the second half, Iran tried to limit more goals conceded but still encountered many difficulties under pressure from the opponent. In the 58th minute, Kennedy completed a double with a header after a corner kick, sealing a 4-0 victory for Australia.

In the remaining time, Iran tried to organize some counter-attack situations but did not create clear opportunities. The match closed with a resounding victory for Australia, while the Iranian women's team continued to face many challenges in the group stage when they lost all 2 matches after the first 2 rounds and only hoped to compete for a ticket to the next round with the position for the best performing 3rd place teams.
