Coach Park Hang-seo attracts attention with statements about Thai football

Coach Park Hang-seo attracted attention with a statement about refereeing after Kanchanaburi FC's draw in Thai League 2.

Kanchanaburi FC played away at Nakhon Pathom stadium on the evening of September 16 in unfavorable weather conditions. Heavy rain made the field muddy, and waterlogging appeared in many areas, significantly affecting the ability of the two teams to deploy their playing style.

Kanchanaburi FC's difficulty became even greater when striker Jean Hebert, also known as Jo, received 2 yellow cards in just 7 minutes. Referee Amnat Makklang successively showed yellow cards to the away team players in the 33rd and 40th minutes after 2 fouls.

Playing with one less player, Kanchanaburi FC still unexpectedly took the lead in the 67th minute thanks to Payanat Thodsanid's goal. However, the advantage of the away team was not maintained until the end of the match.

In the 84th minute, Banjong Phadungpattanodom scored to help Nakhon Pathom equalize 1-1 after a chaotic situation in the penalty area. Slow motion images afterwards showed signs that the home team player was offside. However, Thai League 2 did not use VAR technology, so the referee's decision was maintained.

After the match, coach Park Hang-seo expressed dissatisfaction with the refereeing work. The Korean coach believes that both the situation of Jo receiving the second yellow card and Nakhon Pathom's equalizing goal need to be considered.

I have a few words to send to the referee. Now I understand why the Thai team keeps losing to Vietnam, because of decisions like this," coach Park Hang-seo said.

Perhaps this is the reason why Thai football cannot go further," he added.

Coach Park's statement quickly attracted attention in Thailand. A part of fans agreed with his criticism of refereeing, while another group said that bringing the head-to-head record between Thai and Vietnamese footballs into the story after a club-level match is inappropriate.

Kanchanaburi FC has only had 1 victory after the first 3 rounds of Thai League 2 2026-2027. In the last two matches, coach Park Hang-seo's team had to draw.

Kanchanaburi FC currently has 5 points and is ranked 5th in the standings, 1 point behind the leading team.

Coach Park Hang-seo started leading Kanchanaburi FC from July. The contract has a term of 2 years, with the goal of bringing this team to play in Thai League 1.
