Despite receiving the first defeat at the tournament, coach Tan Cheng Hoe said that the match is a valuable opportunity for young players to accumulate experience when facing one of the strongest teams in the region.
He shared: "I think for these young players, I am very happy that they have accumulated experience and have the opportunity to rub against a strong team like Thailand. That will help them prepare better for the next match. As a coach, I still believe in these young players if they continue to be given opportunities and maintain a good performance.
The 58-year-old coach also emphasized that Malaysia still holds the right to self-determination in the race to win a ticket to the semi-finals as there is still a match with the Philippines ahead.
He affirmed: "Surely, as a coach, I still believe we have a very good chance to qualify for the next round. Hopefully we will continue our journey in the next match".
According to the schedule, Malaysia will close the group stage by hosting the Philippines at Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium in Cheras. Meanwhile, Thailand will successively face the Philippines and Myanmar to complete their journey in Group B of the ASEAN Cup 2026.
