Le Quang Liem had the advantage in the first match when he was in charge of the white team, taking the lead. Therefore, the grandmaster of Vietnamese chess opened the tournament with the initiative to seek opportunities to overcome Karthik Venkataraman.
However, the Indian player was not completely overwhelmed but instead sought solutions to get Le Quang Liem to defend. Both sides kept a low check mark and then agreed to stop the match with a draw.
On November 12, Indian time, Le Quang Liem and Karthik Venkataraman will meet in the return match of the standard flag.
At this time, both sides still have a chance to advance to win with a ticket to the 5th round of the 2025 World Cup. In case the return match of the standard chess has a draw, Le Quang Liem and Karthik Venkataraman will continue to compete in tie-breaks with quick chess and lightning chess to determine the final result.
The 2025 World Cup will be held in India until November 27. This year, the tournament attracted 206 players to participate in the men's event. The Vietnamese choreography featured Le Quang Liem and Peng Gia Huy as officially attending. Of which, Bang Gia Huy was eliminated in round 1 while Le Quang Liem has entered round 4 so far. The champion will receive a reward of 120,000 USD from the Organizing Committee.
