Grandmaster Pham Le Thao Nguyen competed in the 2025 World Cup in July 2025 in Georgia but lost in the first round so she was eliminated.
Meanwhile, young player Bang Gia Huy was able to participate in the 2025 World Cup in India with his senior Le Quang Liem but was eliminated in the first round due to losing the match.
Therefore, the successful results after 3 rounds, thereby entering the 4th round of Le Quang Liem in India at this time, helped Vietnamese chess gain more prestige in the international arena.
Le Quang Liem has repeated his best result, the qualifying round of the 4th round of the FIDE World Chess Federation World Cup, in this year's competition.
Liem met Jeffery Xiong (USA) again in the return match of the standard event of round 3 (November 8) with a calm mentality and ready to achieve the highest results.
The Vietnamese grandmaster led the white team to keep the advantage of going ahead but did not completely eliminate the opponent in the entire match. After 40 moves, the two sides agreed to stop at a draw.
With this result, along with winning the first match of round 3, Le Quang Liem defeated Jeffery Xiong with a result of 1.5-0.5.
Grandmaster Le Quang Liem officially entered the 4th round of the 2025 World Chess Championship. Le Quang Liem's opponent in this round 4 will be the winner of the match between Daniel Deac Bogdan (Romania) and Karthik Venkataraman (India).
In round 4, Le Quang Liem was rewarded with 17,000 USD from the Organizing Committee. 12 years ago, Le Quang Liem participated in the World Cup in 2013 and reached the 4th round.
Then at the 2019 World Cup, the Vietnamese grandmaster also reached the 4th round. This is still the best result that Le Quang Liem has for himself in this tournament.
The 2025 World Cup for men will gather 206 players. Le Quang Liem won an official place to participate as he was in the group of 20 players with the highest ranking on the FIDE rankings.
Le Quang Liem will play the first match of round 4 on November 11.
