According to information just announced by the US Chess Federation on June 26 (Vietnam time), grandmaster Le Quang Liem is assigned the important responsibility of being the head coach of this national women's chess team to participate in the 2026 Olympiad.
According to regulations, each chess team is allowed to register a maximum of 5 male and 5 female chess players at the 2026 Olympiad.
The US women's chess team will participate in the 2026 Olympiad with players including Irina Krush, Elect Rose Atwell, Carissa Yip, Alice Lee, Tatev Abrahamyan. Among these, player Irina Krush has been awarded the title of international grandmaster.
Le Quang Liem is currently living in the US. The Grandmaster of Vietnamese Chess has decided not to participate in the 2026 Olympiad tournament as a player of the Vietnamese Men's Chess Team.
In 2024, Le Quang Liem was a member of the Vietnamese men's chess team participating in the Olympiad.
Recently, Le Quang Liem also announced the termination of his work at the Webster University (USA) chess team. However, the US Chess Federation's announcement that Le Quang Liem will lead this national women's chess team to compete at the 2026 Olympiad is a surprise to domestic chess fans.
The 2025 Olympiad is held in Uzbekistan from September 15th to 27th. 9. Players will compete in standard chess on their tables with 11 games according to the Swiss system. The tournament calculates the results of each player to consider the overall team performance.
At the 2024 Olympiad, the US women's chess team finished 3rd overall. The champion at that time was the Indian team and the runner-up was the Kazakhstan team.
