The ranking of the world's top chess players was announced by the FIDE on June 1st and Grandmaster Le Quang Liem is the only Vietnamese chess player to be in the top 100.
Currently, Le Quang Liem still has an elo rating of 2731. The male chess player of Vietnam recently announced that he will not participate in the 2026 World Team Olympiad.
On the FIDE rankings, Magnus Carlsen (Norway) still holds the No. 1 position with a elo rating of 2841. The 2nd position is Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana (USA) with elo rating 2792. In the FIDE rankings in June, the player ranked 100th is Nguyen Thai Dai Van of the Czech Republic.
Recently, Le Quang Liem decided to play for Team Flash at the 2026 World Esports Cup (EWC) 2026.
The Esports World Cup (EWC) 2026 competition program is held from July 6 to August 23. Le Quang Liem has won an official spot to participate in the tournament after passing the qualifying round, which is the DreamHack Atlanta 2026 tournament recently in the US. Recently, Le Quang Liem has aimed to participate in chess competitions in e-sports tournaments. Esports World Cup (EWC) 2026 has 24 e-sports sports included in the competition, including chess.
Esports is part of the official competition program of ASIAD 20 with 11 events. However, chess is not included in the competition content of this sport at this year's Games.
