Mr. Luu Tu Bao is holding the position of President of the Vietnam Boxing Federation (VBF) for the second term (2023-2028). In addition, Mr. Bao is also the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City MMA Federation (HMMAF), Executive Director of the famous martial arts club Saigon Sports Club (SSC).
Since March 2025, Mr. Luu Tu Bao has been in the US and has not returned to Vietnam. Some foreign information sites also confirmed that Mr. Bao is in trouble with the US judiciary. This has received public attention.
According to Lao Dong's research, to ensure VBF's operations run smoothly during Mr. Luu Tu Bao's absence, on the afternoon of September 5, the VBF Executive Committee will hold an extraordinary meeting. Accordingly, VBF will propose that Mr. Luu Tu Bao sign an authorization letter in accordance with the Federation's charter, assigning the executive power to one of the Vice Chairmen from now until early 2026.
Currently, the Vietnam Boxing Federation for the second term has 27 members of the Executive Committee. In addition to the President, the Vietnam Boxing Federation has Vice Presidents participating in managing the assigned professional areas including Mr. Nguyen Duy Hung (in the role of General Secretary), Vu Xuan Thanh, Nguyen Dinh Nghia, Nguyen Dang Khanh, Nguyen Van Nghia.
Sharing with Lao Dong, a member of VBF said that after the meeting on the afternoon of September 5, VBF will have a specific press release to the media, with a written report to the Department of Physical Education and Sports (under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), as well as other competent authorities.
During Mr. Luu Tu Bao's recent absence, VBF still organized many outstanding activities such as the 2025 National Strong Team Boxing Tournament (April 2025 in Dak Lak), the National Youth Boxing Championship (July 2025 in Ninh Binh).
According to the plan, in October 2025, the Vietnam Boxing Federation plans to organize the 2nd Executive Committee Conference in Ho Chi Minh City. This event is considered an important occasion for the Executive Committee members to discuss and propose a plan for management in the coming time. In addition, also this October, VBF plans to organize a National Boxing Championship in Ho Chi Minh City, with socialized funding.
