Liverpool disappointed after losing to Crystal Palace

NGUYỄN ĐĂNG |

Coach Arne Slot and captain Van Dijk could not hide their disappointment when Liverpool lost to Crystal Palace in the English Super Cup match.

Liverpool have led their opponents twice, thanks to goals from two new recruits Ekitike and Frimpong. However, Crystal Palace played persistently to equalize 1-1 and 2-2 respectively, thereby bringing the match into the penalty shootout. Here, three Liverpool players missed a game, creating conditions for the opponent to win 3-2.

First of all, we were disappointed not to win the Community Shield. We lost the match so this is not a good start to the new season, so we have to try hard in every match. This will be a very stressful season in all competitions, so we have to be ready to show our quality, said Van Dijk.

According to the Dutch midfielder, Liverpool is a team with a lot of experience, both winning and losing. Therefore, he hopes that his teammates will realize their problems and focus on improving. Van Dijk is eagerly awaiting his Premier League debut in the 2025-2026 season, when Liverpool meet Bournemouth at home.

A positive point for Liverpool is that they scored 2 goals, both thanks to new recruits Ekitike and Frimpong. When asked about the striker's goal Ekitike, Van Dijk emphasized that integrating into the Premier League is always a challenge for rookie players. However, Ekitike has shown their quality and Van Dijk hopes that this striker will continue to score in the coming time.

Meanwhile, coach Arne Slot admitted that Liverpool will have many things to improve after losing to Crystal Palace. He appreciated his players' attacking ability but emphasized that Liverpool need to know how to limit goals conceded.

In the preparation for the new season, Liverpool have shown impressive attacking ability, in some aspects more promising than last season. However, according to Slot, Liverpool have conceded many goals, including conceding 4 goals against AC Milan, 1 goal against Yokohama F.Marinos, 2 goals against Athletic Bilbao and 2 goals against Crystal Palace. This is something Liverpool need to improve on if they are to successfully defend their title.
