Where to buy 145 million pounds?
At the end of last season, when Arsenal were unable to participate in the Champions League for the first time in 17 years, President Stan Kroenke decided to spend up to £145 million in the summer transfer window of 2017 with the desire to immediately revive the team.
Arsenal fans are eagerly waiting for Coach Wenger and the board to bring in big stars. The joy soon came to Emirates when they brought in Alexandre Lacazette - one of the "one-hit" strikers in League-1 for 45 million pounds.
After that, Arsenal planned to buy Isco, Thomas Lemar or even Kylian Mbappe - the star at that time was valued at 180 million euros by AS Monaco.
However, by the end of the summer transfer window, only Lacazette had "landed" at the Emirates. So where is the remaining £100 million in the budget that Chairman Stan Kroenke is in?
Adhesive disease is gone... no way out
While Real Madrid agreed to pay AS Monaco 180 million euros to get Mbappe, Arsenal only dared to pay half of that.
In addition to Mbappe, Arsenal still showed that their strep disease had "eaten into their blood" through the deal of Thomas Lemar of AS Monaco. After paying the initial 3 times, Coach Wenger only dared to increase the amount of money asked to buy this midfielder from 40 to 50 and finally 55 million euros. But in the end, before the summer market closed, Arsenal agreed to pay up to 92 million euros but it was too late.
So now that everything is over, Arsenal still have only Lacazette - who is only good at scoring in friendly matches.
Buying less but losing too many people
At the start of the transfer window, Arsenal lost Wilshere when the midfielder refused to return to the Emirates to join AFC Bournemouth. Not long after, goalkeeper Szczesny also joined Juventus.
Two weeks ago, centre-back Paulista said goodbye to the Emirates Stadium to return to La Liga for Valencia and most recently, the one who was expected to have a career with the "Gunners", Oxlade-Chamberlain, moved to Liverpool on the last day of the transfer window.
A failed transfer window when Arsenal only brought in a rather mid-level striker, but lost 1 goalkeeper, 1 centre-back and 2 midfielders. The squad that Coach Wenger has in weak hands is now even thinner with not many replacements.
Arsenal are paying the price
The 0-1 defeat to Stoke City in the second round of the Premier League seemed like an accident as Coach Wenger shared. But everyone recognized how weak Arsenal are at the moment when they lost 0-4 to Liverpool in a match without a shot on target towards the opponent's goal.
On the pitch, Wenger's players were like children "dug up" by Klopp's team, on the bench, Alexis Sanchez kept laughing confusingly with the poor results of his team. Then when he entered the field, he only ran a few steps and was out of time, then hugged his face like many of his teammates.
What is Arsenal's plan now? Wenger also could not answer because he did not have many other options. Sanchez considered accepting to "go low" to leave next summer in the form of a free transfer, Ozil has long been no longer shining regularly, the remaining names such as Walcott, Welbeck, Xhaka... are always only potential.
With the record purchasing power of Premier League clubs like this year, Arsenal's upcoming path will be extremely thorny when right at the match against Stoke City, the "Gunners" are also stuck and suffered a bitter loss.
Every year, the "Gunners" always have a good start and then lose steam, but this year, with a very weak foundation, they have fallen right from the first rounds. The winter transfer window will not start until January 2018, Arsenal can take advantage of that. But from now until the winter market opens, how will Arsenal survive?
Coach Wenger has promised to find glory for the club again this year (may be another season) but with the current situation, the "Wenger Out" status will be more present. The French coach may have understood what money-making football was like, but that enlightenment was really too late.
