The Vietnamese women's volleyball team started smoothly at the AVC Nations Cup 2025 with an absolute victory of 3-0 against Hong Kong (China) on the evening of June 7.
In this match, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet decided to experiment with the squad with young faces, rookies such as Nguyen Thi Phuong, Luu Thi Ly Ly or pieces from Vi Thi Nhu Quynh, Hoang Thi Kieu Trinh... instead of using the familiar squad of Thanh Thuy, Bich Tuyen, Nguyen Trinh, Khanh Dang...
According to post-match statistics, Nguyen Thi Phuong was the top scorer for the Vietnam team. The main striker born in 1999 scored 11 points (1 ace point), achieving an efficiency of 58.8%, equal to the score of opposite Kieu Trinh (11 points, efficiency of 47.6%).
Ranked 3rd is Bich Thuy (9 points, 45.5%) and the next two positions are Nguyen Thi Uyen (7 points, 38.5%), Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen (7 points, 40%).
After the match, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet commented: "There are many positions such as Nguyen Thi Phuong being called up to the national team for the first time or Nguyen Thi Uyen returning to the national team. They all did very well and that made me satisfied".
This is considered a special milestone for Nguyen Thi Phuong in her first time wearing the national team jersey to participate in a major tournament. This achievement is not an impressive number, but it will be a stepping stone for the main striker of the Information Corps to continue to improve herself and strive for in the coming time.
According to the match schedule, the Vietnam women's volleyball team will face Taiwan (China) in the second match of the AVC Nations Cup 2025 at 8:00 p.m. today (May 5).
