The Vietnam women's volleyball team has arrived in Hanoi for training, preparing to participate in the AVC Nations Cup 2025. In the list of 14 athletes selected by coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet to compete in the upcoming tournament, Nguyen Thi Phuong is one of the notable faces.
This is the first time the 1999-born hitter of the Information Corps - Dong Bac Control Team has worn the national team jersey in an official tournament.
Not only was Nguyen Thi Phuong called up to the national team, she is also predicted to be given an official position by coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet in the main attacking position - something that not many rookies have done in their first time in the national team.
Speaking to Lao Dong, a representative of the women's volleyball team of the Information Corps - Dong Bac Corporation said: "Nguyen Thi Phuong has shined at the club under the leadership of head coach Pham Van Long.
This hitter has regained his original form, with powerful shots, effective edging ability and solid defense.
The team believes that coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's choice is completely deserved. Nguyen Thi Phuong can be a quality addition, creating active competition in the national team to aim for the highest goal at AVC Nations Cup 2025".

Nguyen Thi Phuong was once one of the important pillars that helped the army team win 3 consecutive national championships (in 2019, 2020 and 2021). Her stable performance once brought her close to a ticket to the 31st SEA Games with the Vietnam women's volleyball team. However, at the last minute, this female player was not on the official list.
The 2023-2024 period brought many challenges for the female striker when her injury prevented her from maintaining her high performance, even causing her to sit on the bench in many tournaments. However, a turning point occurred when coach Pham Van Long returned to lead the Information Corps team in early 2025.
Under the direction of Mr. Long, Nguyen Phuong not only regained his competitive feel but also became the team's top scorer. Coach Pham Van Long himself also affirmed that Nguyen Thi Phuong is a player with a very good spirit and playing technique, and at many times she plays extremely well. He hopes that she will continue to play an important role in the coming period.
Being named in the official list for the AVC Nations Cup is not only a professional step forward but also a recognition of Nguyen Thi Phuong's tireless efforts. From a mainstay at the club level, she now has the opportunity to prove herself in the international arena.
At the age of 26, if she continues to maintain her current form, Nguyen Thi Phuong can completely become a new mainstay of the Vietnam women's volleyball team - a formidable "weapon" in the hands of coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet in this year's continental tournament.
