Thuy Linh got off to a positive start
After nearly two months off to recover from an injury, Nguyen Thuy Linh officially returned to competition in early January 2025. Vietnam's number one female badminton player started the new year at the 2025 Malaysia International Badminton Tournament.
This is a high-level tournament (BWF World Tour Super 1,000), attracting all the world's top female tennis players to participate. On this field, Thuy Linh stopped at the second round of the women's singles when she lost 0-2 to world number one An Se Young (Korea).
Currently, Nguyen Thuy Linh continues to be in India to participate in an international tournament at the BWF World Tour Super 750 level. Assessing Thuy Linh's professional preparation, the representative of the badminton department (Department of Physical Education and Sports) - Mr. Khoa Trung Kien said that the coaching staff and experts have carefully calculated for Thuy Linh.
“Thuy Linh maintains stability and participating in high-level tournaments right away will not be too risky. The player has enough experience to compete and we register her depending on whether Thuy Linh herself feels she can guarantee her skills,” said Mr. Kien.
Last year, Thuy Linh did the same thing from the beginning of the year. That is, she continuously registered to participate in high-level professional tournaments to accumulate maximum points for herself.
According to the analysis, regardless of whether an athlete is qualified to participate in a tournament at the BWF World Tour Super 500 to 1,000 level, they will be awarded points immediately upon participation. Next, based on their performance in the tournament, they will have the opportunity to earn additional points on their individual rankings.
Thuy Linh had a successful 2024. From a series of tournaments in Europe and Asia, the tennis player maintained a stable ranking to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics (France). Thuy Linh once shared that her goal was to enter the top 20 female tennis players in the world but was not successful, so 2025 will continue the above journey.
"Thuy Linh will be able to participate in three high-level professional tournaments before Tet 2025 and then continue her journey of competition in each stage after that," Mr. Khoa Trung Kien added.
Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen is the face of focused investment.
The 14-year-old young face Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen is being planned by the badminton department (Department of Physical Training and Sports) and the Vietnam Badminton Federation, the governing unit of Dong Nai, to continue to focus on investment in 2025.
Recently, Thu Huyen has been training for nearly three weeks in Thailand. The goal of the training program is for Thu Huyen to accumulate expertise and is an opportunity for the coaching staff to evaluate her level of development. "Thailand is one of the places with good youth training centers, so we create conditions for Thu Huyen to practice and improve her level as a tennis player," Mr. Khoa Trung Kien analyzed.
Thu Huyen's best achievement is the Silver Medal in Women's Singles (U15 age group) at the 2024 Asian Youth Badminton Championship. However, Vietnamese badminton wants this promising player to develop on the right path without rushing.
Many examples of training young female athletes of badminton from Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Korea and China or India have produced many good faces for world badminton.
Vietnamese badminton has a large number of young athletes but not many outstanding players. When expert Hariawan (Indonesia) returned to work in Vietnam, one of the tasks he received from the Vietnamese badminton manager was to build a long-term and in-depth training program for young athletes.
We have Vu Thi Anh Thu and Nguyen Hai Dang who have grown up well after their success from the youth team. Vietnamese sports need more people like that, including promising talents like Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen.
