On August 9, local time in China, Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat competed in the semi-final of the 57kg muay weight class at the 2025 World Games.
Duy Nhat played against opponent Shelesko Dmytro (Ukraine), the world's number one. After three rounds, the referee has scored 29-28 in favor of the Ukrainian fighter. With this result, Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat lost the match and could not defend the championship he had in 2022.
However, the Vietnamese player will continue to participate in the bronze medal match of the men's 57kg weight class.
Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat is the only representative of Vietnamese sports to win a place in the 57kg men's muay weight class at the 2025 World Games. The event has 8 fighters participating in the competition and will close on August 10 local time.
Ms. Tu Thi Le Na - head of the muay department (Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports) said: "athlete Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat has tried his best to compete. The fighters participating in the men's 57kg weight class all have good expertise.
We regrettably lost in the semi-finals, so we missed the opportunity to defend the championship we had at the 2022 World Games. This year, Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat is 36 years old and has gradually switched to coaching.
On August 10, Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat will compete for the bronze medal in the weight class against French opponent Rolland Daren Louis Jose.
