According to Indonesian media, Mr. Shin Tae-yong will not directly participate in training on the field but will focus on strategic orientation, system building and improving the overall professional foundation for the team. The coaching staff of the 7-a-side Indonesian national football team is still headed by coach Socrates Matulessy, along with current assistants and professional departments.
The appointment of Mr. Shin Tae-yong is expected to create a boost in expertise as well as image for the Indonesian 7-a-side football team - a relatively new variant but being invested in development in this country. According to the plan, the team will participate in the Intercontinental Cup organized by FIF7 in Rome (Italy) from July 30 to August 3, 2026.
Previously, Mr. Shin Tae-yong left a clear mark when leading the Indonesian national team in the 2019-2025 period. Under the Korean coach, this team won the runner-up position at the 2020 AFF Cup and reached the semi-finals of the 2024 AFC U23 Championship. He is also highly appreciated for his ability to rejuvenate the force, build a disciplined playing style and improve fitness for the team.
However, after unsatisfactory results in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup and ASEAN Cup, Mr. Shin Tae-yong parted ways with the Indonesian national team in early 2025, before taking on a management role at the Korean Football Association.
This return, although no longer associated with the 11-a-side playground, is still considered a noteworthy step in the development of Indonesian football. With proven experience and professional marks, Mr. Shin Tae-yong is expected to continue to contribute to the development of this country's football in a new direction.
7-a-side football is a variation of small-court football, each team consisting of 7 players playing on a field larger than a 5-a-side field. Currently, this sport is managed by many international organizations, in which the FIF7 system is being selected by Indonesia to participate.
