Ulsan Hyundai Club confirmed that Mr. Shin Tae-yong will take on the role of head coach, replacing Mr. Kim Pan-gon - who had just left the team two days ago.
Although he has won three consecutive K.League 1 championships, Ulsan Hyundai is facing many difficulties in the current season. With the goal of rebuilding the team and regaining top form, the board of directors has chosen Shin Tae-yong - who has had many achievements at both club and national team level.
Not unfamiliar with the K.League, Mr. Shin Tae-yong was once a symbol of Seongnam Ilhwa club with 102 goals and 69 assists after 405 matches. After hanging up his boots, he entered his coaching career and achieved success with the 2010 AFC Champions League and 2011 FA Cup titles with Seongnam.
In the Korean national team, his biggest mark was a 2-0 victory over Germany at the 2018 World Cup. He was then invited to Indonesia, where he led the national team to the first round of 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup and helped the U23 Indonesia enter the semi-finals of the 2024 U23 Asian Cup.
Speaking on the day of his debut, Shin Tae-yong expressed his excitement mixed with pressure: I am honored to receive an invitation from Ulsan. I will do my best to help the team return to the top.
