On the morning of December 18 at the 33rd SEA Games, athletes in the duathlon event of the Vietnam Triathlon team won the gold medal in the men's team competition.
The team includes Nguyen Le Hoang Vu, Nguyen Anh Tri and Pham Tien San.
At the 33rd SEA Games, the Organizing Committee of Thailand will only compete in the mixed relay team for men, women's relay team and mixed relay team for men and women with duathlon (running, cycling, running). Athletes competing must complete a 2km running distance, cycle 8km and run 1km.
With the gold medal in men's team competition at the 33rd SEA Games, athlete Pham Tien San became the first person of the Vietnamese triathlon team to win 3 consecutive SEA Games. At the 31st SEA Games held in Vietnam in 2022, Pham Tien San won the gold medal in the men's individual duathlon. At the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia in 2023, athletes continued to win individual men's duathlon medals. This year, Pham Tien San won a gold medal as a duathlon team member at the 33rd SEA Games.
Pham Tien San is a former player of the Vietnam Athletics Team. After switching to practicing and competing in 3 modern combined sports, Pham Tien San kept his forte in duathlon.
At the 33rd SEA Games, the Vietnam Triathlon Team registered to participate in events for triathlon (swimming, cycling, jogging), aquathlon (swimming, jogging) and duathlon (running, cycling, jogging). On December 19, we will compete in the last 2 events: men's individual triathlon and women's individual triathlon. Athletes will take a 750m swimming, 20km cycling and 5km running route.
