Main striker Nguyen Thi Uyen returns to the Vietnam women's volleyball team after 5 years

HOÀNG HUÊ |

After 5 years, the main striker Nguyen Thi Uyen has the opportunity to return to the Vietnam women's volleyball team.

At the end of the Hung Vuong Cup 2025, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet selected 24 players for the Vietnam women's volleyball team to focus on the first phase of 2025. The list has changed a lot when some young players were given the opportunity and many faces returned. Nguyen Thi Uyen is one of them.

Nguyen Thi Uyen plays as a main striker and currently plays for the Thai Binh women's team. The last time the 1999-born hitter participated in the national team was in early 2023, but then she missed the opportunity to participate in the 32nd SEA Games (May 2023) in Cambodia.

In a quick interview video posted on the Vietnam Golden Star Volleyball channel, Nguyen Thi Uyen shared: "After nearly 5 years of absence, when I saw my name on the list of the Vietnam women's volleyball team, I was very excited, excited and really wanted to contribute to the country.

The position of the owner requires a lot of skills. I will try my best, learn the sisters in the team. If I have the opportunity, I will try my best. Winning the Gold Medal at the 33rd SEA Games of Vietnam Women's Volleyball team is the goal. The goal set out to strive, everything is ahead so I and my teammates will focus from the beginning. "

Nguyen Thi Uyen is one of 6 main attackers that coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet called up to focus. This is also the position with the most called-up personnel this time. Therefore, competing for a place in the squad is expected to be very tense.

However, Nguyen Thi Uyen possesses qualities that make her completely believe in the opportunities for herself. The captain of Thai Binh women's club is one of the players playing in the main striker position with a good height of 1m82 in Vietnamese women's volleyball.

Her highlight is her beautiful, graceful strides and quick, dangerous attacks. Nguyen Thi Uyen is the only explosive that can cause a surprise in Thai Binh's squad. In addition to attacking, the main striker born in 1999 also plays flexibly, supports good defense, catches the first step safely and blocks the ball impressively.

After competing in the Hoa Lu - Binh Dien Cup 2025, phase 1 of the 2025 National Volleyball Championship with the rice-country team, Nguyen Thi Uyen was borrowed by LPB Ninh Binh to compete in the Hung Vuong Cup 2025.

She was given the opportunity by coach Thai Thanh Tung and often played on the field. Together with opposite Bich Tuyen, Nguyen Thi Uyen completed her tasks well, scoring and blocking the ball effectively, contributing to helping LPB Ninh Binh win the championship in the tournament held in Phu Tho.

Head coach Tran Van Giap of the Thai Binh women's team also highly appreciated Nguyen Thi Uyen's ability. Mr. Giap said that Nguyen Thi Uyen is in good competition and should be included in the national team according to the calculation of the head coach.

The fact that the Thai Binh women's team has a national player is a joy and professional honor for Nguyen Thi Uyen personally as well as the club. Coach Tran Van Giap affirmed that this team creates maximum conditions for players to participate in the Vietnam women's volleyball team according to the requirements of the Vietnam Sports Department and the Vietnam Volleyball Federation.

According to the plan, Nguyen Thi Uyen and the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will gather from April 15 at the National Center for Training in Hanoi to aim for a series of major tournaments such as the World Championship, SEA V.League, SEA Games 33...
