Volleyball middle blocker Bich Thuy and her mark in the Asian tournament

Tran Thi Bich Thuy is an impressive player for Duc Giang Chemicals Club at the 2024 Asian Club Volleyball Championship.

Duc Giang Chemicals finished the group stage of the 2024 Asian Volleyball Club Championship with 2 losses and 1 win. Coach Pham Van Long's team ranked 3rd in Group A, after Kuanysh VC (Kazakhstan) and Nakhon Ratchasima QminC (Thailand).

Besides the main striker Tran Tu Linh, the Vietnamese representative also has an impressive hitter, middle blocker Tran Thi Bich Thuy.

According to statistics from the organizing committee, in the opening match of Duc Giang Chemicals against Kuanysh VC, Bich Thuy scored 6 points. She was in the top 5 athletes with the most points of the home team, ranked after Tu Linh, Hong Hanh, Hong Ngat and Ly Thi Luyen.

In the second match against Kwai Tsing (Hong Kong, China), Bich Thuy scored 14 points (1 point on the block), achieving an efficiency of 65%. The 2000-born middle blocker was the 2 player with the most points in the match, along with Tran Tu Linh with 18 points. The brilliance of this duo helped coach Pham Van Long's team win 3-0 against the representative of Hong Kong (China).

In the final match of the group stage, Bich Thuy and her teammates faced the home team Nakhon Ratchasima. Bich Thuy scored 22 points (4 points on blocks), achieving an efficiency of 50%. She was the second highest scorer of the match, after the home team's player Pilepic with 24 points. Although this was an excellent match for the 24-year-old middle blocker, she still could not help her team create a surprise and had to accept a 1-3 loss to the team from the Land of the Golden Temple.

It can be seen that Bich Thuy is the most stable player of Duc Giang Chemicals. With a height of 1m83 and a good jumping ability of up to 3m, Bich Thuy is always the first choice in coach Pham Van Long's squad. The strength of the middle blocker from Ba Vi (Hanoi) is the ability to judge, block well and quickly rush in the 3rd position area.

In recent tournaments, Bich Thuy often makes diagonal moves behind the setter, surprising the opponent. In addition, fans are also surprised by the situations of guessing the direction of the ball, thereby setting up a block in advance to reduce the force of the opponent's attack.

The 4 blocking points in the match against Nakhon Ratchasima all showed Bich Thuy's ability to move flexibly and judge situations well when blocking with teammates like Tichaya or Hong Ngat.

Bich Thuy's performance made many fans feel regretful. In recent tournaments, although the 2000-born middle blocker has always left many impressions both domestically and in the continental arena, he has not been called up to the national team.

Many opinions say that Bich Thuy is a good addition to coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's tactics with her increasingly improved skills.

However, the selection of personnel in the national team depends on the tactics and the use of personnel of the head coach. As long as Bich Thuy always tries hard and maintains her form, she certainly still has a chance to return to the Vietnam women's volleyball team in 2025.

Tomorrow (September 26), Duc Giang Chemicals will enter the quarter-finals of the 2024 Asian Volleyball Club Championship against their hometown team LPB Ninh Binh.

Facing a team with many players like the ancient capital team, Bich Thuy is expected to shine to cause difficulties for the strikers on the other side such as Bich Tuyen, Le Thanh Thuy, Nguyen Thi Trinh...
