Luu Thi Hue quickly left her mark at ASIAD 20. In the match against South Korea in the last round of the group stage, the midfielder born in 1999 scored 11 points, including 6 attacking points and 5 blocking points.
Hue's performance was a notable highlight on the day Vietnam women's team lost to South Korea 1-3. In the middle block position, she created efficiency in quick attacks, and scored 5 times with blocks.
The ability to operate on the net helps her become one of the options used by coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet against opponents with strong attacks.
In matches against Qatar or Hong Kong (China), she also completed her task when she was brought onto the field at appropriate times.
Previously, Luu Thi Hue was additionally registered to participate in ASIAD 20 replacing main attacker Vi Thi Nhu Quynh who had physical problems. The tournament in Japan also marked a new milestone for Hue after a long absence due to injury.
Being in a stable competition period, Luu Thi Hue broke her ligaments in the final of the Hung Vuong Cup 2023, forcing surgery and taking a long time for treatment.
She once shared with Lao Dong: "My life since the injury in 2023 has been very difficult. That is pain, tears and effort. The time I was newly injured was really difficult and hard. In the early days, I could only stay in bed, all activities needed the help of my family and teammates at the club.
Not to mention, recovering from training is not easy either. For a volleyball player, injury is already something no one wants to encounter, ligament injury is even less so. This injury has haunted me. Just mentioning it makes me scared.
At one point, Luu Thi Hue thought about retiring. However, the encouragement from her family, coaching staff, teammates and fans helped her continue the treatment and training process.
After training and regaining her physical condition, Luu Thi Hue was called back to the national team in 2026. Participating in ASIAD 20 and performing well against South Korea is a new milestone in this middle blocker's competition journey.
