The International Chess Federation FIDE has a new ranking on May 1. Grandmaster Le Quang Liem is still the Vietnamese player with the best ranking.
Le Quang Liem currently holds an elo rating of 2731, ranking 19th. Although in the ranking last month, this grandmaster ranked 17th.
Meanwhile, grandmaster Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son has an elo rating of 2600, so he is ranked 154th at this time. Grandmaster Le Tuan Minh has an elo rating of 2585, so he is ranked 206th.
At the present time, 3 grandmasters Le Quang Liem, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son and Le Tuan Minh are still Vietnamese chess players with the best rankings on the FIDE rankings.
In September, the Vietnamese Chess Team is expected to register to compete in the 2026 Olympiad Team Championship held in Uzbekistan.
The coaching staff of the Vietnamese chess team will select the best players to participate in the tournament and does not exclude Quang Liem, Truong Son, Tuan Minh from being named in the list.
In the 2024 Olympiad competition in Hungary, the chess players all participated in the same squad as the Vietnamese Chess Team.
Currently, grandmaster Le Quang Liem is coaching chess as well as working in the US. Chess players Truong Son and Tuan Minh have domestic professional competition programs and some international tournaments according to their plans. It is expected that Truong Son and Tuan Minh can participate in the 2026 Asian Championship at the end of May in Mongolia.
