As the 2024 Olympics approach, the story of the "luckyest athlete on the planet" was shared on social networks.
Steven Bradbury's ice and snow medal seems to have become a source of inspiration, arousing the exciting atmosphere before the Olympics.
Accordingly, at the Salt Lake Winter Olympics 2002 (USA), Australian athlete - Steven Bradbury won the gold medal to the surprise of many people.
He is not the strongest at the moment, but thanks to luck and skillful tactics, the athlete born in 1973 has stepped to the pinnacle of her career when she won the 1,000m slide event.
After qualifying for the first round, Steven Bradbury only finished 3rd in the quarter-finals, with the host country's candidate Apolo Anton Ohno and world champion Marc Gagnon. But instead of stopping there, Bradbury continued when Gagnon was left out for breaking the rules.
In the semi-finals, Bradbury consulted the coach and used a hidden strategy behind, waiting for the wrong opponent to rise.
As expected, during the competition, defending champion Kim Dong-sung (Korea), star Li Jiajun (China), Mathieu Turcotte (Canada) all had accidents and the ticket to the final unexpectedly belonged to Bradbury.
In the final, the Australian athlete continued to stick to the "wind-throwing" strategy. Once again, luck smiled on Bradbury when four opponents including Ohno, Ahn Hyun-soo, Li Jiajun and Turcotte collided and fell in the last corner.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Bradbury rose up and won the gold medal, much to the regret of their opponents. This is also the only Olympic gold medal in the career of this figure skater.
Steven John Bradbury was born in 1973 in Camden, Australia. He is a former speed skater, having participated in the Winter Olympics 4 times in 1992, 1994, 1998 and 2002.
In 1991, Bradbury was a member of the short-distance relay team, winning the world championship and becoming the representative of Australia to participate in the Olympics in Albertville in 1992. Two years later, he and his teammates won the first bronze medal for their home country in the 5,000m relay event.
Also at the 1994 Olympics in Lillehammer, Bradbury finished 8th in the men's 500m speed skating event, 24th in the men's 1,000m speed skating event.
