A serious accident occurred at the opening stage of the Giro della Valle d'Aosta bicycle race held in Italy, killing young racer Samuele Privitera.

Samuele Privitera is a member of Hagens Berman Jayco's squad, competing in the U23 event of the tournament. While going downhill at a speed of about 70 km/h in the Pontey area, he unfortunately collided with a gate along the road. The collision caused his helmet to be thrown off, leading to serious head injuries.

Immediately after the accident, medical forces were present to provide emergency care on the spot. However, Privitera's heart was determined to have stopped beating and despite being urgently transferred to Aosta Hospital, doctors could not save his life.

In response to the heartbreaking incident, the organizing committee of Giro della Valle d'Aosta decided to cancel the second race taking place on July 17. The tournament continues to return on July 18, with a banquet ceremony for unfortunate young trackers.

The Italian authorities immediately investigated the cause of the accident, focusing on clarifying the reason why Privitera's helmet fell during the match.

In France, the prestigious Tour de France bicycle race also takes a minute of celebration before entering the 12th stage. The runners simultaneously applauded in memory of Privitera. After that, Tadej Pogacar - the winner of this stage announced his dedication to the young racer who has just passed away.
