Badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh is the only Vietnamese badminton player to be awarded a spot to participate in the 2026 Singapore Open.
The Singapore Open competition program takes place from May 26 to May 31. The competition program of the tournament has the BWF World Tour Super 750 level of the world, so it will attract world-renowned badminton faces to participate.
Nguyen Thuy Linh was awarded a ticket to the main women's singles round of the tournament. The organizers have drawn lots and Thuy Linh will compete against Natsuki Nidaira (Japan) in the first match.
Currently, Natsuki Nidaira is ranked 27th in the world while Thuy Linh is ranked 21st in the world.
Thuy Linh just participated in the 2026 Masters International Badminton Tournament in Malaysia. That is the tournament where she was selected as the No. 7 female singles seed, however, the Vietnamese player did not perform successfully, so she left the tournament early due to losing in the 2nd round of women's singles.
According to the program, after the tournament in Singapore, Thuy Linh will also participate in the international badminton tournament in Indonesia. Thuy Linh is focusing on preparing professionally to have good results in Singapore next week.
The Vietnamese tennis player aims to return to the top 20 in the world women's singles, so international results will help her accumulate more points in her personal rankings.
Recently, Thuy Linh was granted an official slot by BWF to participate in the 2026 World Championships to be held in India in August.
