Nguyen Tien Minh passed the preliminary round with the best effort to participate in the men's singles main round of the tournament. On February 26, the player from Ho Chi Minh City competed against No. 1 seed Sholeh Aidil (Malaysia) in the first match of the men's singles main round.
Although he had focused all his professional ability, Nguyen Tien Minh could not create a surprise. The veteran Vietnamese player lost 0-2 (15/21, 23/25) and stopped at the tournament. A similar result came from Tien Minh's wife, player Vu Thi Trang.
Vu Thi Trang played the first match of the women's singles round 1 but lost 0-2 to opponent Iao Jui-Chi (Taiwan, China).
In other developments, Vietnamese badminton also witnessed Le Duc Phat leaving the tournament after losing 0-2 to Dhruv Negi (India).
Meanwhile, player Nguyen Hai Dang (seed number 4) played brightly to win in the first round of men's singles. Hai Dang defeated Raghu Mariswamy (India) with a score of 2-1. In the match of the 2nd round, Nguyen Hai Dang will face Hein Htut (Myanmar).
