According to Thai media, on August 4, Mr. Thana Chaiprasit - General Secretary of the Thai Olympic Committee chaired a meeting of the Sports Committee, athletes and delegation officials to attend the 33rd SEA Games.
At this meeting, the Thai Olympic Committee quickly summarized the preparation work for the 33rd SEA Games taking place at the end of the year.
Accordingly, the Southeast Asian Games will have 50 events and 574 competition events. Athletes of the Thai team will compete in all sports.
The preliminary list of participating athletes was also announced by the Thai Olympic Committee. Currently, the host delegation has 2,134 athletes and 652 referees expected to participate in the Congress; Malaysia registered 1,824 athletes and 452 referees; Singapore has 1,937 athletes and Myanmar has 749.
At the 33rd SEA Games, the Vietnamese sports delegation plans to send 863 athletes to compete.
Notably, according to the announcement of host Thailand, the Cambodian team withdrew the number of only 57 athletes. This number surprised many when it previously registered 1,515 athletes. Thus, up to6% of the number of Cambodian athletes will not be able to participate in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games.
However, recently, the General Secretary of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) denied this information in the country's media. Mr. Chamroeun affirmed that NOCC does not know about any such figures related to the number of athletes participating in the 33rd SEA Games.
We dont know about this. This is not official information. Cambodia has not considered anything other than continuing efforts to train athletes.
It depends on the situation, and we have to wait for the final decision from the Royal Government. There is still a lot of time left to finalize the list, he said.
Returning to the meeting of host Thailand, it is known that 4 countries including the Philippines, Indonesia, Brunei and Timor-Leste have requested an extension of 2 more weeks to submit the list of athletes and will be completed before September 1.
Currently, the competition location and facilities at both Songkhla and Chonburi sports centers are assessed to be 100% complete. The competition location in Bangkok is now 80% complete, however, some sports still need to adjust the location.
