On the afternoon of December 26, in Hanoi, the Department of Physical Training and Sports (DTTT) held a conference to review the work in 2024 and deploy the work in 2025. Attending the conference was Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism - Mr. Hoang Dao Cuong.
Reporting at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh - Deputy Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Training - said: "The Department of Sports and Physical Training has basically completed the assigned tasks, ensuring the quality and progress set out, contributing to the completion of the common tasks of the entire culture, sports and tourism sector in implementing the 2024 work plan.
In particular, regarding the work of institutional development, the Department of Sports and Physical Training has promoted the role of a focal advisory agency, assisting the Party Committee, coordinating with the Central Propaganda Department to submit to the Politburo for promulgation Conclusion No. 70-KL/TW dated January 31, 2024 on the development of physical training and sports in the new period and organizing the guidance and implementation of the Conclusion; advising the Prime Minister to approve the Strategy for physical training and sports development to 2030, with a vision to 2045. At the same time, strengthening the advisory work to review legal documents, mechanisms and policies that are currently bottlenecks for the development of physical training and sports".
According to the report, regarding high-performance sports, from the beginning of 2024, the Department of Sports and Physical Training has directed a high level of concentration on the implementation of training and competition plans for teams in shooting, badminton, swimming, athletics, cycling, taekwondo, weightlifting, gymnastics, table tennis, judo, etc. to accumulate points on the world rankings to consider tickets to participate or compete for Olympic tickets at a number of major tournaments. As a result, Vietnamese sports have 16 athletes/11 sports winning places to participate in the Olympics.
In terms of achievements, in 2024, Vietnamese sports won 1,214 international medals, including 482 gold medals, 360 silver medals, and 372 bronze medals.
Notably, the women's futsal team won the Southeast Asian championship for the first time; 16 athletes/11 sports won tickets to the Paris Olympics - although the set goal was not achieved, all performance parameters were improved.
Shooter Trinh Thu Vinh completed her mission with excellent results, placing 4th in the women's 10m air pistol event and 7th in the women's 25m sport pistol event. The women's volleyball team won the world bronze medal for the first time, the Asian gold medal for the second time, and many other impressive achievements.
Regarding disabled sports, the Vietnamese sports delegation attending the 2024 Paris Paralympics achieved the set target with Le Van Cong winning a bronze medal in the 49kg weightlifting category.
Regarding plans for 2025, Deputy Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Training Nguyen Hong Minh emphasized: "2025 is forecasted to continue to have many difficulties and challenges, but there are also many advantages in the context of implementing Conclusion 70-KL/TW of the Politburo and the Sports and Physical Training Development Strategy approved by the Prime Minister.
The sports sector must strongly innovate, continue to strengthen the work of advising on the implementation and institutionalization of the Party and State's policies and orientations in the Resolution and Strategy for the development of Vietnam's sports and physical training in the new period...".
Accordingly, the specific goals set by the Department of Sports and Physical Training are to continue completing legal documents and projects according to the content committed to the Minister; strive to have 38.3% of people regularly practicing sports, 29% of families practicing sports; aim to maintain the top position at the 33rd SEA Games and strive to lead the top position in Olympic and ASIAD sports at the 33rd SEA Games.
