The Vietnamese sports delegation is expected to participate in the 33rd SEA Games with 1,165 members, including 865 athletes competing in many sports. In parallel with professional work, the bonus policy was implemented early to create more motivation for competition.
Accordingly, athletes who win gold medals, silver medals and bronze medals will receive 10 million, 5 million and 3 million VND respectively immediately after completing the competition.
This form of immediate reward is expected to help athletes maintain their competitive spirit in a tight competition schedule. The Vietnam Department of Physical Training and Sports and the Vietnam Olympic Committee are also making efforts to mobilize sponsorship from businesses to increase reward sources.
In addition, each department and federation also has its own bonus level for its athletes. Among them, the Vietnam Athletics Federation is the first unit to announce a large bonus, with 1 billion VND for the team if it reaches the target of 12 gold medals.
General Secretary of the Federation Nguyen Manh Hung said: "We have developed a plan to find social resources and have a reward fund to encourage the spirit of coaches and athletes. However, the highest requirement is that everyone must achieve the set gold medal achievement".
The Vietnam General Martial Arts Federation (VMMAF) also said that it will have its own prize fund, at least 100 million VND for each gold medal, in the context that this is the first time the general martial arts team has participated in the SEA Games.
At the 32nd SEA Games, many athletes in sports such as karate, taekwondo, judo, boxing or football received bonuses right after the competition, creating a positive effect in the whole group. Deputy Director of the Vietnam Department of Physical Training and Sports Nguyen Hong Minh said that the sports industry is continuing to seek social resources to maintain the prize fund at the 33rd SEA Games.
The bonus level between sports is currently uneven, depending on the ability of each federation to call for sponsorship. Sports with great appeal such as football, volleyball or golf often mobilize better resources, thereby ensuring attractive reward policies for players.
On the contrary, sports without a national federation such as boxing, wushu, muay or pencak silat have many difficulties in finding sponsorship. General Secretary of the Vietnam Olympic Committee Tran Van Manh said that the social influence of each sport is a key factor determining the ability to attract sponsors.
