The Cambodian Olympic Committee will officially notify the Organizing Committee of the 33rd SEA Games of the decision to withdraw from participating in 13 events at the 33rd SEA Games on November 28. Among these, Cambodian sports will withdraw from volleyball.
Previously, Cambodian sports registered to participate in the men's volleyball ( indoor) event at the 33rd SEA Games.
The Cambodian team is the current runner-up of the SEA Games after reaching the finals at the 32nd SEA Games held at home in 2023.
The Cambodian men's volleyball team once set a goal of competing hard to reach the finals of the 33rd SEA Games. However, the decision to withdraw from the volleyball sport of this national sport has made the opportunity to defend the runner-up position of the Cambodian men's volleyball team no longer realistic.
The withdrawal of the Cambodian men's volleyball team from the 33rd SEA Games has left the men's volleyball ( Lam mi) event at this Games with only 7 participating teams: Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines.
Before Cambodia's sports withdrew from volleyball, the men's volleyball (home) event of the 33rd SEA Games had 8 participating teams.
The organizing committee has drawn lots for groups since October with the results of Group A including Thailand (host), Laos, Vietnam, Singapore. Group B includes Indonesia ( defending champion), Myanmar, the Philippines and Cambodia. The Cambodian men's volleyball team will not participate, leaving Group B with 3 teams.
