SEA Games still has important value
National sports teams officially returned to training after the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday from February 3.A representative of the Department of Physical Training and Sports said that national sports teams will carry out training programs according to the National Sports Training Centers, but above all, all will return on February 3 (the 6th day of Tet) in accordance with regulations.
In addition to the tasks of building and completing documents and management work, implementing strategies and projects, the preparation of high-performance sports forces for international sports competitions is focused on.
Director of the Department of Physical Training and Sports - Mr. Dang Ha Viet said: "The 33rd SEA Games arena is of great significance to Vietnam's high-performance sports. We are participating with the best efforts to compete for the best results to be in the Top 3 countries with the highest total medal count and if there is a chance, we can be in the Top 2 leading countries".
Representatives of the High Performance Sports Department 1 (Department of Sports and Physical Training) discussed the professional preparation work towards the 33rd SEA Games, saying that we aim to win at least 85 Gold Medals and strive to exceed 90 Gold Medals in the final result.
Before the national sports teams took a break for the Lunar New Year 2025, the Vietnam Olympic Committee received an official notice from the Thai Organizing Committee of the 33rd SEA Games regarding the number of medal sets that will be officially competed for. Accordingly, Thailand will compete in 574 sets of medals in 50 sports.
“Basically, we aim to achieve the best results in medals in the Olympic and ASIAD events because sports have professional preparation goals in the next long-term plans,” Mr. Hoang Quoc Vinh - Head of High Performance Sports Department 1 (Department of Physical Education and Sports) once shared.
The best preparation
At this time, we are reviewing and carefully calculating the professional preparation work, from which we will report to the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to develop a detailed program to participate in the 33rd SEA Games. How many members will Vietnam Sports register and how many events and sports will participate in the above Congress have not been announced. The review will still take a long time to complete.
During the time of returning after the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday, the coaching staff of the national sports teams will begin reviewing their forces to select suitable people to participate in the 33rd SEA Games.
According to some key teams such as athletics, swimming or weightlifting, the players are keeping their spirits high and returning to training to compete in some tournaments early in the year.
Vietnamese sports topped the medal tally at the 31st SEA Games (205 Gold Medals, 125 Silver Medals, 116 Bronze Medals). At the 32nd SEA Games, we continued to top the medal tally with 136 Gold Medals, 105 Silver Medals and 114 Bronze Medals.
There have been many opinions that Vietnamese sports need to calculate appropriate preparations to focus more on the ASIAD and Olympic arenas instead of focusing all their efforts on the SEA Games arena. However, Vietnamese sports and sports of other countries in the region all aim for the highest goal of raising the level of Southeast Asian sports to improve their achievements. Therefore, participating in the SEA Games has an important task that is recognized.
“After the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday, apart from the national sports teams that have gathered and returned to training, other national sports teams have not gathered yet,” Mr. Hoang Quoc Vinh added.
