The project to expand Duong Quang Ham Street extends from Go Vap Cultural Park to the railway line bordering Binh Thanh District.
The road has been upgraded from 6 m to 32 m with 6 lanes, with a total investment of more than VND 2,300 billion, of which the cost of site clearance accounts for more than VND 1,926 billion.
The project started in April 2020 but after only 4 months it had to be temporarily suspended due to problems in site clearance. In September 2023, the project was restarted when Go Vap District handed over part of the site.
According to records, many sections have been paved with asphalt to help reduce dust and improve travel conditions for people.
However, many sections of the road still have hundreds of electric poles that have not been relocated, causing congestion and posing a potential risk to traffic safety.
"A vehicle often drives fast on a newly paved road, if not familiar with the road, it is easy to be dangerous, especially at night" - Mr. Mai Van Thanh, a resident of Go Vap district shared.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board - investor), before the Lunar New Year, Duong Quang Ham Street was temporarily opened to traffic to reduce traffic pressure on neighboring routes such as Phan Van Tri, Nguyen Thai Son, Le Duc Tho.
However, because many electric poles have not been relocated, the contractor has temporarily installed surrounding corrugated iron barriers, painted white - red reflectors and installed warning lights at night to ensure safety for road users.
According to the original plan, the project to upgrade and expand Duong Quang Ham Street will be completely completed by the end of 2024.
However, according to the Traffic Department, the construction process encountered many difficulties due to a series of electric poles that had not been relocated.
To speed up the progress, the Traffic Department has recommended that the electricity industry urgently construct the undergrounding of the power grid and reclaim all power poles before March 30, 2025. If this is completed on schedule, the project can open to traffic on April 30, 2025.

In addition to the problem with electric poles, the site clearance work has not been completed. Currently, Go Vap District People's Committee has handed over 421/427 cases, 6 cases have not been resolved.
Of which, one household (the gas station on the right side of the route) has not yet handed over the land, 3 lots located on the road have not been dismantled and 2 land areas under the management of the Ministry of National Defense have not yet had a decision to transfer.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has issued a document requesting the Ministry of National Defense to agree to hand over the national defense land to implement the project.
To ensure progress, the Traffic Committee recommends that the Go Vap District People's Committee soon complete the enforcement of the gas station on the right side of the route in February 2025.
At the same time, it is recommended that the Ministry of National Defense quickly issue a document approving the removal from the payroll, relocation and dismantling of 3 lots, as well as agreeing to transfer the national defense land area to the two units for management, creating conditions for the project to be implemented according to plan.
