After Barca were eliminated from the Champions League with a 0-3 loss to AS Roma, Club President Ruben Bartomeu posted an apology to fans. This defeat, not only for Bartomeu, is a disgrace to those who love the Catalan team. It was even bitter when they led 4-1 in the first leg but then returned empty-handed.
"I would like to sincerely apologize to the fans. In the last match, Roma were the better team. They have faith and show their best. When they did that, Roma achieved their desired goals.
This defeat will affect us but there are still important matches ahead for the club. I believe the players will soon regain their spirit after this pain," Bartomeu shared.
Thus, Barca's remaining goal is only La Liga - where they are leading, 11 points ahead of the second-placed team Atletico Madrid. However, after the defeat to Roma, more than ever, the Barcarans understand in football that "crazy things" can happen.
Regarding the future of captain Valverde, President Bartomeu expressed hesitation and hinted that from next season, the former Bilbao coach will no longer be in the hot seat at Nou Camp
"The club will continue to win in all competitions, whether it is Ernesto Valverde or another coach. Every season, we always aim to win, but that doesn't come tonight," Bartomeu said.
Although this was only Barcelona's loss since the beginning of the season, it was the most painful defeat, directly destroying hope of reaching the top of the European sky and overthrowing arch-rivals Real Madrid. Bartomeu had an excuse to " blam" this defeat because coach Valverde did not let Barca play offensively against Roma. Having suffered continuously for the whole 90 minutes and making silly mistakes in defense cost the champions in 2015 a lot.
