On the afternoon of October 16, the 8th ASEAN Sports Ministers' Meeting (AMMS 8) officially concluded after the final plenary session with the participation of delegates from ASEAN member countries.
The event was chaired by Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity and determination to promote sports as a pillar of development in the region.

At the conference, the countries reached a high consensus and adopted the AMMS 8 Joint Statement, emphasizing the goal of building a healthy, dynamic and sustainably developed ASEAN community.
The ministers affirmed that sports are not only physical training activities, but also effective tools in promoting human development, enhancing peace, regional cohesion and building a common ASEAN identity.
The Joint Statement also acknowledged outstanding achievements in ASEAN sports cooperation in the period of 2021-2025, especially the successful implementation of the ASEAN Work Plan on Sports, promoting the community sports movement and organizing many influential sports events in the region.
Ms. Wanida Phansa-ard - Deputy Minister of Sports and Tourism of Thailand - affirmed that Thailand will strive to organize the 33rd SEA Games and the 13th ASEAN para Games in the direction of "GreenEA Games", developing environmentally friendly and sustainable sports.
She emphasized that sports are an important part of Thailand's national development strategy, focusing on community sports, professional sports and international cooperation.

Speaking at the end of the conference, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong highly appreciated the active participation of member countries and emphasized that sports are always a bridge of friendship, contributing to promoting peace. sustainable development.
Vietnam is committed to continuing to accompany ASEAN in promoting sports for everyone, developing high-performance sports and expanding international cooperation.
Notably, the conference also welcomed the efforts of countries in preserving and promoting traditional sports, considering this an important part in preserving the cultural identity of ASEAN.
Delegates also congratulated Cambodia for successfully hosting the 32nd SEA Games and the 12th ASEAN para Games, and hoped that Thailand would successfully host the 33rd SEA Games.
In a friendly and open atmosphere, the conference congratulated Vietnam on asserting the role of ASEAN Sports President for the 2024-2025 term and Cambodia will inherit the role of AMMS 9 President in 2027. Delegates also expressed their willingness to support Timor-Leste, which is expected to join ASEAN in 2026.
