High rewards are the driving force for achievements
Two years ago, at the end of the 32nd SEA Games in 2023 in Cambodia, athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh of the Vietnam Athletics Team was one of the those who received the highest prize income through competition achievements. She won 4 individual Gold Medals in Cambodia.
According to State regulations, at that time, Nguyen Thi Oanh was awarded 180 million VND (for 4 Gold Medals) and 92 million VND (hot bonus). In addition, the female player was rewarded with 1 car and 1 apartment by the sponsor in her hometown of Bac Ninh (formerly Bac Giang). From that, it can be seen that when athletes achieve outstanding results at the SEA Games, they receive valuable reward income, creating more motivation to practice and compete.
The Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports has drafted a Decree "Regulating policies for members of national sports teams, focusing on training and competition" to replace Decree No. 152/2018/ND-CP to improve the regime for coaches and athletes. In the new draft Decree, the proposed bonuses for SEA Games achievements corresponding to each Gold Medal, Silver Medal, Bronze Medal are 60 million VND, 30 million VND and 25 million VND. If an athlete breaks a record at the SEA Games, they will receive an additional 25 million VND.
Currently, the new Decree replaces Decree No. 152/2018/ND-CP that has not been approved and issued. The 33rd SEA Games will take place in December 2025. After the competition, Vietnamese sports will summarize their competition results. In the immediate future, it is almost certain that Vietnamese coaches and athletes will still receive the reward according to current regulations in Decree No. 152/2018/ND-CP on competition achievements at the SEA Games of 45 million VND/Gold Medal, 25 million VND/Clear Medal, 20 million VND/Gold Medal and a record of 1 SEA Games will receive an additional 20 million VND.
This year, the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports has developed a plan to be in the top 3 countries with achievements at the 33rd SEA Games. The managers predict that according to the strength and number of participants of Vietnamese sports, we will strive to win a minimum of 75 to 80 Gold Medals. The "hot" prize is of great interest to athletes participating in the SEA Games.
Through each SEA Games, the "hot" bonus depends on the socialized sponsorship that the Vietnam Sports Delegation calls for. Two years ago, at the 32nd SEA Games, due to limited sponsorship, the Vietnam Sports Delegation only announced a "hot" prize for the Gold Medal result. At that time, 1 Gold Medal was awarded a "hot" prize of 23 million VND. 1 Gold Medal in the collective event was "hotly" rewarded with about 46 million VND. As for the football team's achievements, when winning the Gold Medal, they were awarded a "hot" reward of 100 million VND.
At the 31st SEA Games, the "hot" prizes given by the Vietnam Sports Delegation for competition achievements are 10 million VND/Gold Medal, 5 million VND/Cilder Medal and 3 million VND/Colshoi Medal.
Maximum nutritional support
Starting from October 1, national sports teams with coaches and athletes preparing professionally for the 33rd SEA Games will receive nutrition (food) increased to 480,000 VND/person/day. This is a regulation applied according to Circular 86/2020/TT-BTC issued by the Ministry of Finance to specify the special nutritional regime for high-performance sports coaches and high-performance sports athletes. Previously, national coaches and athletes received a diet of VND320,000/person/day.
National sports teams have carefully reviewed the forces preparing for the 33rd SEA Games with high-level training since September. During the 3 key months (from September to December), nutrition is the most important issue.
Therefore, in addition to increasing nutrition (food allowances) according to regulations, the leaders of the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports require each National Sports Center to have training teams to ensure medication and medical work to support athletes to recover their health after training.
Niture is a very important factor because it also brings health to athletes. Each team has a diet suitable for each training cycle, so the coaches will share more experiences with the athletes," said a representative of some national sports teams.
