After the unfortunate defeat to Qatar in the quarter-finals, the Vietnam men's volleyball team entered the 5-8 ranking match at the AVC Nations Cup against a fateful opponent Indonesia.
Right from set 1, Vietnam played fairly. The decisive scores of Ngoc Thuan and Quoc Duy helped the team take the lead at the decisive moment, ending the set with a 25-23 victory.
In set 2, the Vietnam men's volleyball team continued to play steadily, with a lead of 19-11 at one point. Although Indonesia leveled the score, the team still promptly took the lead and won a narrow victory 26-24 thanks to Ngoc Thuan's timely brilliance.
However, from set 3, declining physical strength caused Vietnam to play below the strength, allowing Indonesia to regain control of the game with a score of 25-17. In set 4, despite trying to catch up and sometimes take the lead, Quoc Duy and his teammates still let the opponent equalize 2-2.
The match had to determine the winner by a tense set 5. Coach Tran Dinh Tien's students played resiliently, but once again Indonesia proved their mettle with a 15-12 victory, thereby winning 3-2 overall.
Thus, the Vietnamese team missed the opportunity to compete for 5th place at the AVC Nations Cup and had to compete with Taiwan (China) for 7th place.
