Vietnam women's team ready for Japanese challenge

Midfielder Ngan Thi Van Su affirmed that the Vietnamese women's team has learned from the experience after losing to Taiwan (China) and is ready for the challenge against Japan.

In the afternoon of September 15, the Vietnamese women's team continued to practice at Iwata Sports Exchange Village Yumeria Ball Stadium, preparing for the confrontation with the Japanese women's team in Group E of ASIAD 2026 women's football.

After losing 1-2 to Taiwan (China) in the opening match on September 14, the Vietnamese women's team quickly returned to training. The players and the coaching staff reviewed the match, analyzed the shortcomings and looked for ways to improve against the Japanese opponent.

Midfielder Ngan Thi Van Su said that the whole team has clearly recognized the limitations after the first match.

Although the first match did not have the desired favorable result, the whole team has learned the necessary things to move towards a better second match. We have reviewed the video ourselves and shared it together to better prepare for the next match," Van Su said.

In the match against Taiwan (China), the Vietnamese women's team was led 2-0. Thanh Nha scored a goal to narrow the score in the final minutes, but the team could not find an equalizer.

Van Su admitted regret when the team created some chances in the final minutes but could not take advantage of them.

The whole team played their best, and I myself tried my best. In the final minutes of the match, there were many chances but they could not be converted into goals, I am very sorry about that," the midfielder born in 2001 said.

According to Van Su, the connection between the players is important for the Vietnamese women's team, especially in the context that the squad has many young factors. She said that young players need to actively learn from their seniors, and at the same time pass on experience to new faces.

“I am also a young player and I have been conveyed many useful things by the sisters. Therefore, I will share those things with new factors to create a united bloc together, towards good results for Vietnamese women's football. For the next matches, the coaching staff will have more detailed analysis so that the whole team can make adjustments and aim for better results,” Van Su shared.

The next opponent of the Vietnamese women's team is Japan, a highly rated team at ASIAD 2026. This will be a big challenge for coach Hoang Van Phuc and his team after an unexpected opening match.

However, Van Su believes that the Vietnamese women's team has prepared mentally and professionally to enter the match.

Although Japan is a strong opponent, the team has also prepared spirit and determination. We have met this opponent a number of times and there are also things to note to aim for a better match," Van Su said.

After the afternoon training session on September 15, the Vietnamese women's team will continue to complete tactical plans before facing Japan on September 17.
