Vietnam women's team ensures fitness for ASIAD 20

MINH PHONG |

Although they have just gone through a long training and friendly process, the Vietnamese women's team still ensures fitness for ASIAD 20.

On the afternoon of September 12, coach Hoang Van Phuc attended a press conference before the start of women's football at ASIAD 20.

The captain of the Vietnamese women's team shared: "During the preparation process, we had 3 weeks of training in Vietnam, then 10 days of training in China with 2 friendly matches. Yesterday, we moved to Japan and arrived here in the evening.

Two matches in China and 3 previous friendly matches in Hanoi helped the coaching staff have more data to evaluate the squad. This is also a process for players to get used to tactical requirements, adjust coordination between lines and accumulate match experience before the tournament.

Coach Hoang Van Phuc said that after arriving in Japan, the health of the whole team is quite good. The Vietnamese women's team will have their first training session at 4 pm today (September 12), mainly aiming to adapt to competition conditions and complete the final events before the opening day.

ASIAD 2026 women's football has 12 participating teams, divided into 3 groups. Vietnam women's team is in Group E with Japan women's team, Taiwan (China) and Thailand. The two leading teams in each group and the two third-placed teams with the best results will win tickets to the quarterfinals.

The dense schedule also poses requirements for the ability to distribute energy of the Vietnamese women's team. The team will meet Taiwan (China) at 4:00 PM on September 14th at Shizuoka Stadium Ecopa, then face host Japan on September 17th and Thailand on September 21st.

With a long preparation process, the coaching staff had time to check many plans before entering the tournament.
