At the 32nd SEA Games held in Cambodia in 2023, Hoang Nguyen Thanh won the bronze medal in the men's marathon with a time of 2 hours 35 minutes 49 seconds. The goal of this athlete at the 33rd SEA Games is to strive for the highest result.
In March this year, Hoang Nguyen Thanh won the men's 42km marathon at the 2025 National Marathon held in Quang Tri with a result of 2 hours 32 minutes 24 seconds.
Meanwhile, Hoang Thi Ngoc Hoa was absent from the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia. She was awarded a place to participate in the 33rd SEA Games thanks to her good performance and stable expertise in 2025. This athlete won the women's 42km marathon at the 2025 National Marathon with a time of 2 hours 42 minutes 10 seconds.
According to research, the athlete who won the silver medal in the women's marathon at the 32nd SEA Games, Le Thi Tuyet, will not participate in this event at the 33rd SEA Games. The coaching staff of the Vietnam Athletics Team will calculate the best professional plan for Le Thi Tuyet at the 33rd SEA Games.
Currently, host Thailand has not announced the roadmap for the men's and women's marathons of the 33rd SEA Games. The teams are expected to know the marathon route when they are in Thailand in December. The 33rd SEA Games Athletics Tournament will be held in Bangkok (Thailand).
